Updating teen bedrooms can be quite expensive. To save on costs, consider painting. A new coat of paint can add a freshness to the room and update any bedroom. Changing from a soft or pastel wall color to a vibrant color can make the room seem like it's had a complete makeover. Using color on only one wall can also make the room appear to be updated. If you have a favorite bedspread, try selecting several colors from the spread and adding a different color to each wall in the room. Overhauling teen bedrooms can be fun and exciting for any teen.

Choosing a color scheme should be fun and easy. Start with a color you feel comfortable with. What is your favorite color to wear? More than likely, this is the color you will want to use in your room. Once the color is selected for your teen’s bedroom, choose the shades of color. Try using several shades for a more subdued modern feel. Or you can try opposite shades on the color wheel for a more dramatic room. Many hardware stores and online shops have an easy to use color selector. The more advanced selectors will even show you a room in your selection of colors.
Painting items in your room will make them look new again. Paint a dresser a solid color or try painting the drawers a different color. If paint is not quite enough, try selecting a few decor items. Hanging new brightly colored curtains, adding a new bedspread or purchasing new lighting fixtures can dramatically change a room. Teen bedrooms often have posters on the walls, but did you think of adding some to the ceiling? How about some hanging beads in your doorway? Even brightly colored throw pillows will not only update a room but will offer visiting teens a place to sit.
Remember to let your teen make their bedroom their own. Adding simple touches such as decorative lamps, colored bulbs for special lighting, and a bulletin board so you’re teen can add their own personal touch. If a new carpet is not in your budget try adding a small throw rug. Small rugs often come in a variety of shapes to compliment any decor. Teen bedrooms are often the most neglected. Updating your teens bedroom can help your teen feel appreciated and builds self esteem.
