Bedroom Lamps

When selecting lighting for your bedroom, there are many types and styles to consider. Bedroom lamps are common features in homes built in the past 30 years. Before that, bedrooms often featured a ceiling light with one bulb. Still many homes are built with no lighting fixtures, only a light switch which controls the electricity to an outlet. This is where you will plug in your lamp. Unfortunately, this does not give you many options on lamp placement, unless you don't mind an extension cord running across the floor. When these homes were built, they took into consideration the most likely placement of the bed. Usually the outlet closest to this bed placement site is the one working off of a light switch.

Bedroom lamps come in many themes and styles today. Whether your bedroom is modern, traditional, or garish, you are sure to find a matching lamp. Bedroom lamps placed next to your bed will be the most important light in your bedroom. This lamp will make it possible to reach up from your bed to switch it on or off. Built-in headboard lighting will not give off enough light for dressing or selecting clothing from your dresser. A bedside lamp will give you adequate lighting. Use either fluorescent or tungsten lighting. Other decorative lighting can be added to enhance a certain effect you are looking for. Try adding a ceiling fan with a center light that can be dimmed for a certain mood in the room. Or try mini-lights draped across your curtains or bed posts for a dramatic effect. Colored bulbs are another option that will add excitement to any room.

A dimmer switch can be an added benefit. This will make it possible to dim the lights at night, when only a nightlight is necessary. If bedroom lamps aren't what you're looking for, consider mounting wall lights. Placing wall sconces on either side of the bed will offer lighting for book lovers. Each lamp can be operated independently of each other, making this suitable for any couple. These wall lights will not offer the lighting necessary for dressing or searching through dresser drawers, so you may still need to consider at least one tall lamp. A floor lamp might better suit you. Placing a floor lamp in front of a window will dramatically cut down on shadows.
